Basin Station Cabin is a rustic, two-room structure located in the Hebgen Lake District of the Gallatin National Forest. The cabin is open year-round and is accessible by car in the warmer months. The adjacent road is heavily traveled. Winter guests can snowshoe, ski or snowmobile to the cabin up to two miles from the nearest available parking. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. |

Summer directions from West Yellowstone, proceed west on U.S. Highway 20 for approximately 6.5 miles. Turn right on the Denny Creek Road and continue approximately 2 miles north. The cabin is located on the right side of the road. Winter directions from West Yellowstone, proceed west on U.S. Highway 20 for approximately 6.5 miles. Turn right on the Denny Creek Road. Parking is along the Denny Creek Road, where it meets the highway. Do not block access to the fire station or residences along the road. Proceed along the 2-mile trail to the cabin by skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing. During the spring and fall, guests are encouraged to call the Hebgen Lake Ranger District, at (406) 823-6961, for road conditions and access to the cabin. |

The cabin is equipped with a double-bed platform and one set of bunk bed platforms all with mattresses. A wood stove is available for heat. An old fashioned wood cook stove is available and basic pots and pans are provided, as well as dishes, an axe, shovel, broom, mop, and a table with chairs. No water or electricity is available at the cabin. Guests must either bring drinking water or treat water they retrieve from natural sources. It is also recommended that guests bring their own cooking stove. Garbage bags are needed to pack out trash. Items such as bedding, flashlights or lanterns with extra batteries, first aid supplies and extra toilet paper are also not available at the cabin. |

Renters must call for the cabin combination at the Hebgen Lake Ranger District office at (406) 823-6961, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m on the last business day before the arrival date; winter renters need to receive parking instructions Water is not available in the cabin; guests need to bring their own or be prepared to treat water taken from a natural source Grizzly bears frequent the area; store all coolers, food, beverages, stock feed, and garbage inside the cabin. Hebgen Lake Ranger staff will be patrolling for compliance with a food storage order in the cabin vicinity throughout the season. click here for more information No garbage service; please bring garbage bags and pack out all trash and belongings Candles are not permitted inside the cabin Stock use at the cabin is not allowed due to lack of adequate space; and because the adjacent pasture is used to house Forest Service stock. The cabin sits in an open meadow in the Upper Madison River Valley with views of distant evergreen forest and mountain peaks on all sides. It's situated within a couple miles of the South Fork Arm of Hebgen Lake, a man-made lake known for its excellent trout fishing. The area around Basin Station Cabin is grizzly bear habitat, but it's also home to bison, elk and pronghorn. Otters are often spotted playing in the South Fork of Madison River. Bird watchers can glimpse a variety of bird species in the area. |

The Basin (Trail #217) trailhead is located just to the west of the cabin. The trail is open to hiking, horses, mountain biking, and seasonally to motorcycles and ATVs (from June 16 - December 1). The trail leads into the forest and eventually connects with the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Winter activities in the area include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Nearby Hebgen Lake offers opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, biking and hunting. A public boat launch with two docks is located about two miles from the cabin at Lonesomehurst Campground and boat launch. |
